Getting excited about an intriguing new technology that promises to produce heat and electricity using nothing but water as fuel.

Imagine you could run water through a device, and the same amount water comes out the other end clean and safe, but so does heat or electricity. Energy from water, non-destructively, and non-polluting. Imagine how that could change the world.

As someone concerned about climate change and the environment, I’m always interested to hear about new technologies that might mean we can lessen our impact on the planet. Clever new renewable sources or energy storage technologies get me excited. One of those I came across recently though has that excitement off the scale. Firstly it sounds almost like magic, and if it works out, the potential to completely change the world seems almost limitless. That technology is what a company called EnergyNetiQ are somewhat cryptically calling simply an “Energy Cell”.

This energy cell takes an input of water, does something to it via an electrical input and under pressure (in order to protect their new technology they’re pretty vague about how this bit works), and this creates a photo-luminous plasma (ie. the water glows) in collapsing bubbles, with an output in heat energy that in their prototypes so far is 3.5 times the amount of…
